Give Yourself a Personal Back to School

With back to school season in full swing, the idea of going back for more education has probably floated around in your head. You also may be thinking “who needs more school?” or “pfff, I graduated years ago, now give me money!” That’s understandable. Years and years of school can have a toll on people, but even for those of us who are a little tired of school and graduated years ago, it’s always good to learn something new. Not only does it keep your mind sharp, but it can also be beneficial to your current career or help you start a new one.

Learning something new these days is easier than ever. You can even get your degree from the comfort of your own bedroom (cue the Education Connection jingle). But for those who are just looking to learn a new skill, it’s as simple as turning on that tablet. Video giant YouTube, is now the second most popular search engine behind Google (http://osmos.is/1EFWlJM), because who has time to read anything anyway? A quick search on YouTube on almost any topic can lead to a wealth of information full of how-tos and tutorials on just about anything, from re-staining old furniture to learning how to code.

As amazing as YouTube is, many of you may need more structure (organized courses with certified teachers) in your learning; look no further than Lynda.com. Lynda is a Covalent Logic favorite, with classes in just about anything from business principles to web design, and is a great resource to learn something from cover to cover, and for $30 a month, that’s hard to beat. But don’t whip out your wallet just yet, many libraries (like EBR Parish Libraries) offer subscriptions to sites like Lynda for free, all you need is a library card!

Now that we got you all motivated, get out there and learn something new. It’s a lot easier than you think!
